Grand Velas Riviera Maya Resort Review
Throughout the last two week’s I’ve been sharing photos from my trip to Mexico with 7 of my other blogger girlfriends, and you all have asked so many questions about the hotel we stayed at. The resort was called Grand Velas Riviera Maya, and I am not exaggerating when I say it was the BEST all-inclusive resort I’ve every stayed at. The grounds were absolutely stunning, and I felt like we were vacationing at a hotel in Bali with all the lush greenery and rainforest feels.
If I’m being completely honest, I’ve had some bad experiences in the past will all-inclusive hotels because I never felt like the food was up to par (or frankly worth it) and the alcohol was always mid-to-lower grade. Obviously, you can imagine why I’d be hesitant to book them after that kind of experience. After staying at Grand Velas Riviera Maya, I’ve definitely changed my opinion, and will certainly recommend this hotel brand to friends and family. Here’s why.
Service: I can’t say enough about the service we were presented with at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. The staff were so accommodating and always willing to help lend a hand. Upon arrival, we were presented with welcome cocktails and hotel booklets presenting all the services available to us at the hotel. The staff gave us a complete tour of the grounds and kindly walked us to our room. A few minutes after getting settled, our personal concierge, Francisco, welcomed us to the resort and gave us detailed instructions of how to reach him if we need anything at all. He checked in with us often throughout our stay just to make sure our experience was absolutely perfect. He was absolutely ADORABLE, y’all. You could tell it was the upmost importance to him that we were happy. He was THE best.
A fun story I think you all will appreciate that perfectly demonstrates how accommodating the staff were… Silly me, decided to bring large (over 7 feet long) floats to the pool and tried to blow them up by myself. I think the staff started to feel bad for me and saw me struggling, so they kindly offered to blow the floats up themselves, and not only did they present my float back to me in perfect condition, they also handed me a cocktail so that I could enjoy it in full relaxation mode. I didn’t ask for that, they simply offered it to me. Service at it’s finest, indeed.
The FOOOD, OMG, the FOOOD: I can’t say enough about the food and the restaurants at the resort. The hotel organized our dinners at their three most popular restaurants of the hotel, but I have to admit that whether breakfast or lunch, I didn’t have a bad meal during my stay.
Our first dinner was their Mexican Cuisine Restaurant, Frida. It was just what the doctor ordered as the other girls and I chowed down on our long-time craved Mexican food and flavored margaritas. We had already had 8 bowls full of guac by the pool, so we decided to pass for this particular meal. The small plates were perfect for sharing, and great for conversation on our first night.
The second dinner was their French restaurant, Piaf. I have to admit, French isn’t the top of my food favorites, but this meal was equally outstanding. I was thrilled to see creme brule on the menu, as you all know I die for that dessert.
Last, BUT certainly not least was Cocina De Autor, our 11-course paired tasting meal I couldn’t stop raving about. Each course was bite sized and perfectly designed for taste and presentation. It was amazing trying so many different things and the wine-pairings were the perfect extra touch. I really enjoyed the length of this meal, as it was our last night and I really felt I connected with the girls. This is a must-do in my opinion when you visit the hotel.
The Grounds: I was amazed by how clean the grounds of the resort were. No trash, no water puddles, no leaves/sand… always in pristine condition. I don’t think this is something you would notice until you went to a hotel that was dirty. Looking back, I’m amazed at how perfectly landscaped and blooming everything was. Let’s just say it was a blogger’s paradise.
Our Rooms: If you didn’t get a look at the room tour I posted on my Instagram channel, then you definitely missed out. Our standard suite felt like a honeymoon suite. It was incredibly spacious (perfect for two girls that love laying out all their clothes), and the bathroom was HUGE. When I say huge, I mean it had 2 counter tops, a large footed bathtub AND a shower. It was basically it’s own room. I think it’s fair to say our favorite part was waking up in the mornings and making a Nespresso (all-inclusive, yassss) while enjoying the rainforest views on our back porch. Pure bliss.
The Amenities: If you all didn’t get a chance to read my post about the Spa, then you definitely need to check it out. We had an opportunity to test out Hydrotherapy, which was so relaxing after a long day of travel. Not to mention, the pools at each of the 3 hotels was absolutely stunning. Each were infinity pools with lush greenery and the coziest cabana beds for soaking up the sun. I couldn’t get enough of the pool, it was my favorite place to hang out.
OK, Bailey, were there any negatives? Honestly, I had such an amazing time and was highly impressed by the resort at Grand Velas Riviera Maya. If I had to mention a negative, I would say that the building of the resort we stayed in seemed to be far away from the “action.” Our resort was the garden/rainforest building. It wasn’t directly on the beach, and it required you to take a shuttle to get to the main pool. BUT at the same time, I felt that we had a much more private experience at our pool as compared to the other 2 buildings that were located on the beach. It certainly wasn’t as crowded. I want to say that I would do it differently and stay at one of the other buildings, but in reality I kind of enjoyed having a vast empty infinity pool all to myself with an endless flow of drinks from the bartender. What more could I want, right?
If you have any questions regarding my stay at Grand Velas Riviera Maya, please do not hesitate to reach out. I had such a memorable stay, and can’t speak highly enough about this resort. I hope you’ll consider staying at Grand Velas Riviera Maya during your next trip to Mexico. Drew and I are already counting down the days until we visit the Grand Velas Cabo location!
