How to Style a Kimono for Fall
Kimonos are one of my favorite accessories for styling an outfit, but I think they get a bad reputation for only being worn in the summer during warm weather season. In my opinion, kimonos can also serve as a light weight cardigan and also be worn into the Fall. You simply have to know what type of kimono to wear and how to style them for the Fall season.
I received so many questions about this kimono when I wore it in Asheville, but it went out of stock so quickly. I’ve found it in stock at 1 online store, so run don’t walk if you’ve had your eye on it. Keep reading for a couple of tips I use in styling a cardigan for Fall.
- Choose the right Fall cardigan – First of all, you want to make sure the cardigan you are styling is appropriate for Fall. If it’s a floral cardigan, it should have Fall colors in it not to confuse it as a Spring Cardigan. Darker, cooler colors tend to work best. Making sure the pattern suits Fall weather is the first step.
- Pair the cardigan with Fall textures – When styling the cardigan, you want to make sure you wear it with Fall textures such as velvet or suede, similar to the burgundy suede skirt I am wearing. Cool weather fabrics help disguise the kimono as a cardigan making it perfect for Fall.
3. Add warm layers – Style your kimono with multiple layers to make the look appropriate for Fall. I wore the look above on one of the warmer days of Fall, so you’ll see that I am styling it with a light cardigan to be able to survive the Carolina humidity. If I really wanted to step up my cold weather game, I would have added a sweater or long-sleeve t-shirt underneath to make it Fall appropriate.
4. Style your look with Boots/Booties – If there is a any way to make a look appropriate for Fall, pair the outfit with boots/booties. There is no denying that boots are the perfect Fall accessory. Any kimono paired with boots gets a check on the Fall style list.
Hopefully these tips will help you up your kimono game for Fall with the 4 tips I shared above. If it’s a trend you haven’t styled previously, I definitely recommend you give it a try and take some of these tips into your Fall wardrobe. It’s an effortless way to accessorize your look.
